Redline is a 3D racing game designed for the Apple Macintosh computers. It has a variety of modes including both single player and networked multiplayer. It has both skill and time challenges. In the simulation modes it employs a sophisticated physics modeling system to insure realism. It is extensible using plugins developed by the Redline users community. It has users spread across an international scale.
Redline was released in September 2006, I acquired my copy in November 2006. For the first six months, I played it using the keyboard controls. Then, after beginning to do real harm to the left arrow key, (most of the tracks I used were left turn tracks) I tried a Logitech "bat wing" controller that I had laying around. Now, this batwing had not worked well with other games I have, but much to my surprise, it was plug and play and greatly enhanced the playability of Redline. Then, in January 2008, I got a Logitech MOMO racing wheel. This has made it a whole new game. The Force Feed Back ( FFB ) racing wheel, with foot pedals, gives the user much finer control over not only steering, but also the gas and brake. Some FFB on the brake pedal would be nice however. Once again this is a plug and play connection. My computer is a Quad G5 with a 30" Apple Cinema Display. I am old and slow, but I enjoy the game. I drive from what is called the bumper camera view, i.e. inside the car, but not camera mode 9.
